Food Preservation - Division 26

No early releases.
  1. Use only standard quart and pint jars or jelly glasses with lids and rings. No paraffin wax.
  2. Goods must be labeled with the type of processing and processing time: pressure canner or water-bath. USDA food preservation guidelines MUST be followed. These standards are available from the extension office, 873-5195.
  3. Refer to the General Rules for Open Home Economics Exhibits.
  4. Premiums and ribbons will be offered: 1st, $3; 2nd, $2; 3rd, $1.
  5. Include recipe showing ingredients and methods used.
  6. Each exhibitor may win only one special premium award sponsored by Ball.

Jarden Home Brands makers of Ball ® and Kerr® FreshPreserving™ Products is proud to recognize today’s fresh preserving (canning) enthusiasts, so First and Second Place Awards will be given to those individuals judged as the best in designated recipe categories.

A panel of judges will select the two best entries submitted by an adult for Fruit, Vegetable, Pickle, and Soft Spread categories. Entries must be preserved in Ball® or Ball® Collection Elite® Jars sealed with Ball® Lids and Bands or Ball® Collection Elite® Lids and Bands, or preserved in Kerr® Jars sealed with Kerr® Lids and Bands or Ball® Collection Elite® Lids and Bands. In addition, soft spread entries will be limited to recipes prepared using Ball® Pectin: Original, No Sugar Needed or Liquid. A proof of purchase for Ball® pectin must be
provided at time of entry.

Entries designated First Place from each category will receive the following:

• Two (2) Five-Dollar ($5.00) Coupons for Ball® or Kerr® FreshPreserving™ Products and
    one (1) Three-Dollar ($3.00) Coupon for Ball® Simple Creations® Products.

Entries designated Second Place from each category will receive the following:

• Two (2) Five-Dollar ($5.00) Coupons for Ball® or Kerr® FreshPreserving™ Products.
